DTN COMMENTS: Still just some scattered trade being reported in parts of
Nebraska at midday at mostly $345, $6 lower than last week's weighted
average. Some asking prices are noted in the South around $230, but they
are still not fully established in the North. A more significant trade
may be delayed until later this afternoon and/or tomorrow.
Today's slaughter totaled 120,000 head, 2,000 less than last week, and
5,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed sharply lower, off 145
to 372. Feeder contracts ended the day sharply to significantly lower,
off 415 to 502, the lone exception was the soon to expire spot November
contract which was up 107. Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with
moderate to good box movement.
