DTN COMMENTS: A light to moderate trade is being reported in parts of
Nebraska at mostly $382, $4 higher than last week's weighted average. A
few bids are now on the table in parts of the South, but so far, they are
being passed.
Today's slaughter totaled 86,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, but
16,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 1,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 541,000 head, 5,000 above the prior week,
but 21,000 less than 2025. Live cattle futures closed mostly modestly
lower, off 2 to up 57, only the February live contract ended the day
higher. Feeder issues were mixed, up 82 to off 47. Beef cutouts are
expected to close mixed with light to moderate box movement.
